Not what i expected

I am a voracious reader and am rarely sorry that i wasted my time reading. This book was the exception. There were too many characters and they were not developed very well. It could be that I read book 2 without know that there was a book 1, but I dont care enough to go back and read book 1.

The teaser was the this author was the new Janet Evanovich. She is clearly not.

Love Lucky in Love!

This new novella by Deborah Coonts was just released on January 17th. This novella, Lucky in Love, fits in between books two and three. Book three, So Damn Lucky, is being released at the end of February. The series focuses on Lucky O'Toole who is the head of Customer Relations for The Babylon, the most amazing hotel in a city full of amazing hotels, Las Vegas.

Coonts, who resides in Las Vegas, knows Vegas! She provides the reader with a realistic and behind the scenes look at Vegas. This novella revolves around a reality series being shot at the hotel. Just a tease of the fascinating world of Lucky and Las Vegas to hold us over for another month.

I love the take no prisoners style of writing that Deb Coonts brings to this series. If you haven't read the earlier to books, Wanna Get Lucky and Lucky Stiff yet, this will give you a preview of this wonderful series for a great price. It is available as a Kindle book on Amazon for $3.44. It is more than time that you discovered this exciting and provocative new writer.

As with the earlier books, Lucky in Love, is filled with fascinating characters from her boyfriend to her parents to her coworkers as well as the newcomers in this novella. And it all revolves around love...what is love...can real love happen in Vegas...does Lucky have love in her life? Vegas is brought to life and by the end of the book you'll be wondering why you haven't booked your next trip there yet! I cannot wait to read the next Lucky adventure, So Damn Lucky!

Fun with Words and Story

Deborah Coonts has a wonderful way with words, while managing to keep distracting obscure ones to an acceptable minimum. Helps to read the Kindle version where one can look up any unknown words with a tap. The cool, casual style alone makes the novella a fun read, but Deborah also manages to add all kinds of unexpected plot twists to keep the story interesting. Sure, one cannot expect the complex character expositions in a novella that a full-length novel provides. Within the confines of a single-climax form she presents interesting stories and lots of drama against the backdrop of insider knowledge of one of the most fascinating cities in the world, Las Vegas. For those that want more depths to Lucky and other hotel characters, there are three full length novels to choose from.

Not bad

It's easy to read, use, and understand but I would like it more if it had more pictures and diagrams. I'm more of a visual learner. It's almost too simple and I'm afraid it's not enough information. I will be taking both my Abdominal and OB/GYN boards next week and I'll let you know if I passed and if I felt prepared. I already passed the physics 3 years ago and I didn't use this book for that so I can't comment or its usefulness in that category.

Good resource to prepare for ARDMS SPI, AB, and OB/GYN registries.

Used Ovel in conjunction with Edelman and Lange to study for SPI, Abdomen, and OB/GYN. Passed all three on first attempt. The QR code on the inside of the book leads to quizzes for each category in multiple formats that can be taken on a mobile device which was very useful. The book also has quizzes at the end of each chapter as well as cumulative tests for all three categories which was also beneficial. My advice: Study multiple sources for each registry exam, don't just study one source. :)

The best cookie book

My wife, who is a fabulous cook and baker, returns again and again to this book when it is time for cookies. When it was lost in our kitchen remodel, she was almost inconsolable; when she found it in the garage she came skipping back to the house and started baking immediately. I can't imagine a better recommendation.

About the Author
Elaine Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

While teaching at Holyoke Community College, where many of her students were pursuing nursing degrees, she developed a desire to better understand the relationship between the scientific study of the human body and the clinical aspects of the nursing practice. To that end, while continuing to teach full time, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. It is this experience, along with stories from the field–including those of former students now in health careers—that has informed the development of the unique perspective and the accessibility for which her texts and laboratory manuals are known.

In her ongoing commitment to students and her realization of the challenges they face, Dr. Marieb has given generously to provide opportunities for students to further their education. She contributes to the New Directions, New Careers Program at Holyoke Community College by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women returning to college after a hiatus or who are attending college for the first time and would otherwise be unable to continue with their studies without financial support. She funds the E. N. Marieb Science Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College, which promotes research by undergraduate science majors, and generously contributed to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she provided funding for reconstruction and instrumentation of a cutting-edge cytology research laboratory that bears her name.

In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor.

Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology® CD-ROM series, and is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Sigma Xi.

Patricia Brady Wilhelm received her Ph.D. in Biological and Medical Sciences from Brown University and is currently Professor of Biology at the Community College of Rhode Island. She has been teaching anatomy to undergraduates for more than 12 years at Brown University, Rhode Island College, and the Community College of Rhode Island.

Continuing to strive for excellence in teaching and learning, Dr. Wilhelm has been a leader at the Community College of Rhode Island in the uses of technology for teaching through the development of web-based course tools, on-line dissection videos, on-line student assessment tools, and cooperative learning strategies for the classroom. The driving factor behind these innovations is the desire to aid student learning by making course materials accessible and to make the study of anatomy an active and interactive process. She has also served as a consultant in training faculty from all three public institutions in Rhode Island (University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and the Community College of Rhode Island) in the uses of technology in teaching, and continues to work on the development and use of multimedia tools for anatomy instruction.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Wilhelm has contributed to numerous anatomy and physiology publications. Dr. Wilhelm’s research interests are: vertebrate functional morphology, biomechanics, and anatomy education. She is a member of Sigma Xi, the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), and the American Association of Anatomists.

Jon Mallatt earned his Ph.D. in Anatomy from the University of Chicago. Dr. Mallatt is currently an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Washington State University, where he has been teaching human anatomy to undergraduates of all backgrounds for 24 years. He is also a member of the department of Basic Medical Sciences, where he teaches courses in Histology and Anatomy of the Trunk in the WWAMI Medical Program. WWAMI honored him with their "Excellence in Teaching Award" in 1992, 1993, 1995, and 2000. Additionally Dr. Mallatt holds a position as adjunct Associate Professor in the department of Biological Structure at the University of Washington. His particular areas of expertise in the study of anatomy are histology, comparative anatomy, and anatomical drawing, although his research now focuses on the origin of vertebrate animals and molecular phylogeny. Dr. Mallatt is an accomplished researcher with 39 publications in the fields of anatomy and molecular phylogeny to his credit.

But the Mastering A&P online access is very useful. You can get your book on your Android ...

This is a very thorough text. The Access Card only lasts for about 7 months, then it automatically becomes inactive. But the Mastering A&P online access is very useful. You can get your book on your Android or Apple device, and there are quizzes and tests on just about everything in each chapter. I only wish that the labeling quizzes didn't give you a word bank since you don't get a word bank on the actual tests. Also, the CD that this book came with is very helpful because it shows actual human cadavers as well as cat, sheep, and pig dissections. This all is useful for studying since you can't be in lab all day long!

Was done with it at the halfway point.

Conceptually the book is sound. The authors have given us all permission to do that which we know (or should have known) naturally is a better way to develop training. What I found both interesting and frustrating is that the reading level is so high. I am intelligent, educated and well read. By well read I mean that I read, on average three or more business/science books/people books a month. I am never without one. LSFA was a struggle at times. As if the authors are so high minded that the idea of mere mortals reading it hadn't occurred to them.

For those that need ALL of the details on how to set up a training committee and get started, they are definitely in here. That said, those ideas are for companies that have the people and budget for creating committees. (As if we needed another large committee)

It might have been nice if they had thought of the little guy, the Lone Ranger such as the Safety guy in a small company. I had to work it out on my own, and for those of you interested, ask me how I did it.

Finally, you can actually get the core concept in the first half of the book. I couldn't force myself to read on after that. For those of you with little time and lots of common sense, skip the first chapter. It is a maddeningly slow detailed review of the history of how not to create training.

Is the book vital? Essential? Well, the core concept is. The book felt like the authors either wanted to show off all of their thoughts or were struggling to fill in a book. Ironically both ideas are not great as training goes.

Buy it. Read a few chapters. Put it away and start creating training.

Good and not a "heavy" book

I'm a undergraduate economic student and have tried a good sort of books in this matter, and I finally get one that fits very nice to my needs. This book touches all the aspects of the subject without being very hard to understand or too boring to read, and that is hard to find in book about industrial organization! Another good point is that the book is very new and have useful and contemporary examples. A liked very much!

I was required to use this book for my IO course. I am not able to compare it side by side with other books, but i can say that its approach to the many IO topics is very rich, and an easy read. Student with an Economic background will most definitely find it an easy read. For those not versed in Economics, theoretical and empirical information is presented in a seamless manner.
