Good gravy, Emma "Queen of the Cliffhanger" Shade has done it again!! She sucked me in and left me hanging! At this point I am not sure if I love her or hate her but I guess I will say love since she gave me such an amazing book which had me on the edge of my seat!

Finding Clarity is the second book in The Secrets Series and picks up right where Finding Obscurity left off. Poor Lily...this girl is a magnet for chaos and danger and it doesn't get any better for her in book 2 :( As if being a half vampire/half future seeing, lightning bolt throwing conjurer isn't hard enough, she is also being hunted by an evil vampire named Con and is caught up in a crazy love triangle between two hotties, Ashton and Blake.

Luckily for Lily she has some amazing friends that support her and have her back. Her best friend, Sam, is so loveable and protective of Lily that you can't help but adore him. He also has some of the BEST one liners that had me laughing out loud at very inappropriate times.

"Definitely team va-jay-jay. Too bad thought. I'd gobble you up."

I love this guy! And don't even get me started on Paige. This girl is one bad ass fire thrower who has Lily's back but drives her crazy at the same time....or as Lily refers to her "A fire crotch who controls fire."

Best of all, we get a whole lot more Ashton/Blake angst in this book. Lily is still unable to chose between the two men as she has strong feelings for both of them. She finds herself in "compromising" positions with both of them on more than one occasion and they are all STEAMY scenes that will have you squirming in your seat...just a little ;) I know most people are going to root for Ashton and say he is her soul mate...blah blah blah....but I am a #teamblake girl ALL the way!! Blake! Blake! Blake! You hear me Emma Shade??? She belongs with Blake!!

Unfortunately this one leaves us hanging again. At 96% I was almost Googling Emma's address and was ready to show up at her house for a little "talk" if things hadn't taken the turn that they did. You are lucky you dodged that bullet Miss Emma ;) I am literally DYING for book 3 and she better wrap this one up in a nice red bow...as in wrap that bow around Blake and Lily! I cannot recommend this book and the entire series enough! It is a nice change of pace from the usual vampire/werewolf paranormal and I promise you will be glued to your Kindle!

This book is full of mystery and suspense

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this book. It is even better than the 1st, I fell more in love the the characters and their story. The book kept me guessing and wanting more til the end. I am beyond ready for the next book to come along. I had a few mini heart attacks while reading, because nothing could ever get me ready for the twist and turns the book had. I never would have guessed or seen what was coming and I was left in total shock! If you like mystery and suspense in you books then this is the right book for you!! Emma is one of my favorite new writers. Her writing always makes me feel like I am reading a mini movie the story just plays out in my head and I get emotionally invested in the characters and their stories. If you haven't read Finding Obscurity yet do so first so you understand what is going on. Happy Reading!

I had an opportunity to beta read Finding Clarity for Emma. It was amazing to see how much she has grown as a writer and to see her characters grow with her. If you like paranormal stories with suspense, hot guys, snappy humor, and wicked twists, then the Secrets Series is for you. I especially love the secondary characters and hope to see them develop into stories of their own. I would definitely recommend reading Finding Obscurity first, so you can better understand the characters and the storyline. I look forward to the next installment.

Preston Whaley shows Beat artists riding the glossy exteriors of late modernism like a wave. Participants such as Lawrence Lipton, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and at great personal cost, even Jack Kerouac, defied the traditional pride of avant-garde anonymity. They were ambitious to change the culture and used mass-mediated scandal, fame, and distortion to attract knowing consumers to their poetry and prose.

Blows Like a Horn follows the Beats as they tweaked the volume of excluded American voices. It watches vernacular energies marching through Beat texts on their migration from shadowy urban corners and rural backwoods to a fertile, new hyper-reality, where they warped into stereotypes. Some audiences were fooled. Others discovered truths and were changed.

Mirroring the music of the era, the book breaks new ground in showing how jazz, much more than an ambient soundtrack, shaped the very structures of Beat art and social life. Jazz, an American hybrid--shot through with an earned-in-the-woodshed, African American style of spontaneous intelligence--also gave Beat poetry its velocity and charisma.

Blows Like a Horn plumbs the actions and the art of celebrated and arcane Beat writers, from Allen Ginsberg to ruth weiss. The poetry, the music, the style--all of these helped transform U.S. culture in ways that are still with us.

Mr. Whaley, in this book, takes an academic approach to a subject that is just now beginning to attract scholarly interest. He thoroughly fleshes out a range of sources that span the artistic spectrum in order to give balance and objectivity to his treatment of American culture during the bebop and beat eras. The 1960s, with the Civil Rights Movement, the advent of hippie culture, and the protests against the Vietnam War, has long garnered attention from scholars, writers, musical historians, and filmmakers alike. In the popular conception of pop culture, the 1950s are often labeled boring or drab by comparison. Preston Whaley's analysis, however, will go a long way toward identifying the cultural movements of the 1940s and 1950s as part of a linear whole, a direct predecessor of the cultural revolution of the late 1960s. This book has a nice exuberance and conviction, a consistent vision and a persuasively engaging tone. It has a winsome, masculinist, optimistic, expansive style that is reminiscent of beat literature itself. (Maria Damon, author of The Dark End of the Street: Margins in American Vanguard Poetry)

Whaley's Blows Like a Horn made me want to read ruth weiss, see The Subterraneans, reread Visions of Cody and well, I already listen to Coltrane and read Howl all the time...but these are signs to me of a very effective book. Whaley wants to find a new way of talking about the Beats and post-Beat culture, one that doesn't fall into the rhetoric of liberation and resistance that is so common in the analyses of this genre, or to the cultural studies critiques of the beats that have pointed out the movement's appropriation by the hegemonic structures of Western, white, patriarchal, hetero capitalism and left it there. Whaley looks for a hitherto ignored space in Beat culture in which the aspirations, experiments and prejudices of the Beats can be directly related to precisely the kind of struggles that cultural studies itself is engaged in as a field. The Beats may not solve all problems, but they are aware of many of them, to varying degrees. There's a subtle, improvisatory quality to Whaley's writing that mirrors the kind of in situ politics and aesthetics that he's trying to evoke in Beat culture. He moves between high and low, personal and theoretical as the situation needs. He talks to the reader directly. There's a refreshing directness here, a willingness to address fundamental human situations. (Marcus Boon, author of The Road of Excess: A History of Writers on Drugs)

Looking at the interface between literature and jazz, Whaley focuses on the development of the Beat scene and the social and economic factors that fed it. 'Immediacy of emotion' is what he finds central to--and prizes in--both the poetry and music that came of age in the Beat period. A rich sense of political history enhances Whaley's analysis and his writing on jazz is as knowledgeable as his grasp of the literature of the period. He discusses such major figures in the movement as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, offering particularly original and compelling studies of the often-disparaged film version of Kerouac's Subterraneans and of Kerouac's posthumous novel, Visions of Cody. Equally valuable is discussion of less-known personalities (ruth weiss, Bob Kaufman) and the personal and social infighting in the Beat subculture...Written in a clear and forceful style...this volume deserves a long life. About the Author
Prof. S. K. Sinha earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1993. He has 25 years of teaching experience, and has been working in the CNC area for over 15 years. Well-written and thorough

I have Peter Smid's CNC Programming Handbook (which I highly suggest). I almost bought Smid's Macro programming book before I saw this. This book is $20-30 cheaper than Smid's book, and I am quite impressed with it. The description's table of contents is accurate; it covers a lot of useful topics. The explanations of the basics of macro programming are very clear. As long as you have experience with general CNC programming, you can follow the explanations. It does help to have previous computer programming experience, though. There are multiple chapters dedicated to applications of macro programming with plenty of examples. There are also a lot of very good programming tips throughout the book that will save new programmers some hassle debugging programs.

The book focuses on Fanuc controls (the Fanuc 0i, in particular). However, the shop I work for uses Haas machines, and I have found that Haas's implementation of macros is quite standard. The mapping of system variables matches very closely to the book's description.

Excellent source of education on macros

There is absolutely no wasted space in the 200+ pages here. Covers mostly everything, and gives you an understanding of the macro concept well enough to continue developing your understanding on your own. Since reading I have devised 2 practical macro applications in the shop I work in. It is necessary to be familiar with the cnc process already and the codes that accompany the process, but once you are this book expands your knowledge well beyond that of your peers. Some subjects are rather complex that relate to more advanced features of macros (communicating with external devices, PLC's and the like) but that gives you an idea of where to go after mastering the macro language.

This covers a lot of introductory aspects of macro programming like construction, and how to layout code, and defines the characters and functions well as advanced stuff. I bought this book because I recently got a job that uses macros. the only thing I did not like about the book is the lack simplicity and understanding of some of the examples. I just found they didn't dumb it down enough for the new guys or i would have given 4 stars. i think it is a must have for reference with macro programming.

WOW!! A laugh a minute! It was the best comic I have read in a LONG time...great story, great artwork, and VERY funny. It is an astonishing adventure and I really connected with the Greg character. The extra comic strip in the back of the book is a funny bonus. I would recommend this book to anybody that had a sense of humor.

I'm rapidly becoming a fan of Mr. Murphy's art work and this graphic novel is entertaining. The art is at time goofy and at times dramatic but always beautiful, and the characters feel like people you'd meet on the street. Especially in the environments you can see the impact that Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) has had on the illustrator. All in all an enjoyable book.

Beautiful artwork that I think most people would enjoy, characters are pretty funny and relatable. This is definitely a story inspired by real life, it perfectly captures that young adult confusion, that feeling of being stuck (as symbolized by the Jeep getting stuck in the mud) we all experience. The characters overcome the bad things they've been dealt in life and put past experiences behind them. This is one of those stories that you are lucky enough to happen upon, and when you come out the other side, you feel like a stronger person. This is a self contained story, well structured without anything unnecessary. It felt like just the right length to me, I couldn't put it down and burned through it in one night. I'm going to have to check out Sean Murphy's other stuff now, like Punk Rock Jesus. To me, this book is well worth the money, and I'm going to want to hold onto it for a long time. 5/5, 100 %, 2 thumbs up, a thousand coconuts, whatever, it was awesome.
