Ridiculously Erotic and Unexpectedly Intense

Well. I certainly wasn't expecting THAT. "That" being the emotional jolt I felt reading the sinfully stimulating sex scenes between these three distinctly drawn men. What in the world did I just read?! I'm humming with emotion myself. Questioning society's traditional definition of a "relationship," and cheering the realization that love comes in so many forms and all are to be cherished.

By the end of this book, Gray, Jack, and Mason felt like a cohesive triplet (is that the right descriptor?). I just felt like the addition of Mason to the already established relationship between Jack and Gray was the right, organic thing to do. The each brought something special to the other two, making the relationship complete. I can't imagine any of these guys stepping out on the others because they are so right together.

And "thanks" to the author for keeping it real--these are "men" after all, so OF COURSE they all had trouble sharing their "feelings" with each other. Such a "guy" thing to do, isn't it? I heard an explanation of the M/F dynamic one time that has stuck with me:

A woman says "If I didn't love you, I wouldn't tell you that I loved you." A man says, "If I didn't love you, I wouldn't BE WITH YOU."

A man expects his actions to speak louder than his words. Just like Gray, Jack, and Mason.

I read the blurb and bought this, expecting a titillating tale. I wasn't prepared to get as emotionally invested as I had.

Mason is a college drop-out working as assistant manager/bartender in a bar in Durham, NC. He said goodbye to his Duke tuition and expenses when he defied his parents wishes regarding his future a few years prior. Oddly, his parents felt this "gay thing" was a phase he'd outgrow--but they couldn't abide a child not accepting the career choices they made.

While working, Mason meets Jack and Gray--two beat officers who are investigating a string of robberies in Durham. Mason finds the duo sexy, but can't imagine these burly men are gay. Still, the officers come into the bar time and again, and the subtle cues they leave lead Mason to imagine more than a straight fantasy.

It soon becomes clear that Jack and Gray are interested in Mason--as a third. This doesn't work for Mason, however, because he's afraid of coming between them--emotionally, not physicially. He's dying to "come" between them. Bah-dum-dum.

Anywho, Jack and Gray manage to have their sexy way with Mason. There are light BDSM elements--bondage, spanking, orgasm denial--and the pair think this is a great deal. Mason freaks. He's getting too attached to his fantasy, and is sure the bottom will fall out and he'll crash hard.

There's a lot of angst, not the least of which surrounds the fact that Jack and Gray are closeted, despite living together. And, when Mason comes under fire in the robbery-ring, it's an eye-opener.

I really enjoyed this. The sex was...nuclear? Yep, probably that hot. The story was interesting and believable. Have a sexy cop fantasy? This menage delivers--times two.

Fitting In by Silvia Violet rocked my world. Two sexy cops, Gray and Jack could fulfill any man’s fantasy, but they have chosen bartender Mason as the object of their affection. Gray and Jack meet Mason at a local hang out and are immediately smitten with the young man. The feelings are definitely reciprocated by Mason as well.

Ms. Violet delivers a story of not only extremely scorching sex but one of insecurities, questioning and love. Gray and Jack are in a committed relationship, but are deep in the closet as two of the police forces finest. When they meet Mason, who is out and proud, the men question the ramifications of denying who they truly are in the public eye. The inner turmoil they face radiates through the pages as they ponder these questions. Ms. Violet’s characterization of Gray reduced me to tears as he tortured himself psychologically in the need to please both his lovers. Gray, the ever-present dominant in the trio must learn that sometimes one is dominant by actually letting go. Jack is the peace maker. I adored his demeanor, his sense of nurture and his whit.
Mason’s character was lovely and sweet, deep-rooted with angst as all his life he was told that being homosexual was only a passing thing by his family. Mason has had relationships in the past but all have failed as he never truly felt satisfied until he met Gray and Jack, thus leaving him with a foreboding sense of doom.

Silvia Violet delivers a pure and true connection between the three men and also a connection to the reader. Once I began to read I was not able to put the book down, as I was meshed into the lives of Gray, Jack, and Mason.

Fitting In is not only a story of three very hot men, but a story of growth and maturity. A story of learning to accept what is freely given to you and taking a chance on each other and love.

Plethora of trapping/grappling techniques

This book does a pretty good job of presenting techniques from a clinch, or another situation where one is close enought to use Wing Chun-style trapping techniques. It also covers moving into a clinch possition, as well as several takedowns and throws from said possitions. It covers using these techniques both offensively and defensively. Also covered is basic fighting stance and footwork, some standing submissions, and some leglocks for securing a person on the ground. The book was made in 1984, so it may not be 'state of the art' where some clinching and grappling techniques are concerned, compared to what has developed in modern MMA competitions. It's a decent enough book, and for someone with no knowledge of clinching, trapping, or basic upright grappling, I think it could be helpful, and is reasonably useful for MMA competition and self-defense training, but mostly as a suplementary text.

Honestly, what are the other reviews talking about?

I bought the book because the reviews were very good but it is not. I wanted to improve my techniques and the book tought me nothing.
Larry uses the name and image of Bruce Lee to sell something that is far from Lee's philosophy. What am I talking about: mediocrity. The book even has a foreword from Linda Lee, whom I think was only trying to help his friend a bit.
Yes, the books "shows" a variety of techniques. But there is no deepness in it. In the two years that I've been practicing from an very good Wing Chun Kung Fu teacher i've learned most of the tecniques exposed in the book, but with a huge difference.
Trapping and Grappling in mostly about awareness, balance, center lines, pessure points, joint control. Larry's book says nothing about that. Here is a typical text sample of the book (page 28) "If your opponent gives you a front hand answer, you can loop his front hand and throw a back fist. If he parries that, you can lop again and punch." This is accompained by a secuance of five tiny pictures wich loosely describe the movement. Only that sometimes you don't know how the guys got from picture A to B. The pictures are too small sometimes to see what's going on, where the punch went or how the grab is done. The text is fluffy and the design bad. Not much effort was put on the making of this book.
Watching at a smiley face on a Bruce Lee Picture in the book makes me wonder, would he actually had endorsed this book at all?

after being exposed to jkd,concept and original,kenpo,judo,boxing and so many seminars/books/videos studying and practicing since i was 13 and now im 40 {just so you know this isnt someone blowing smoke up your a;; here is my review:there are some good techniques in the book.but i have to disagree for alot of the grappling though-dont take my word for it-take it for checking and try it yourself! try the tech on page 95 - catch to figure 4 arm lock to takedown.if anyone with a decent amount of handspeed throws a punch at you and doesnt leave it out there for you to grab like is shown in the book or as you see in martial arts seminars-you not going to be able to pull off this technique.its bs to say the least.even if somehow you caught the punch like is shown-then you use BOTH of your arms to put the opponant into a figure four like as shown in the book-WHATS FROM STOPPING HIM from finger jabbing you in the eyes or for that matter hitting you with the other hand?! ive asked this in seminars and the only answer they give me is they ask me to throw a punch and then they do the technique even more harder then they would for the average participant-more answers like this-ask a question that makes sense and ill just try to inflict pain on you so youll shut up! kinda answer! or with their arm that is doing the figure four elbows you to the head AFTER THE FIGURE FOUR IS APPLIED...... of course i couldve easily fingerjabbed his eyes as both of his hands were tied up in his grappling figure four movement and really he had no defence except for his grappling movement.i even had my fingers right on his eye and even was able to "air" hit him 2-3 times in the throat and to his temple before he swept me - so tell me who really would have inflicted more damage if this "teacher" had tried a technique like this in the street against someone who justs keeps an open mind and just goes for whats open?? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! another nonsense tech is thinking that a lin lop sau {cross grabbing hand }is going to work in the street or in sparring-sure it looks good in the movies and in seminars when the participant isnt really trying to REALLY punch you but to think that after you throw a straight punch and its blocked by your opponant with a pak sau{slapping hand}with his rear hand that you are going to be able to use your rear hand to grab your opponants rear blocking hand and pull him into your lead backfist is a PIPEDREAM AND A JOKE TO SAY THE LEAST! dont take my word for it !!! try it in sparring yourself! chances are when you spend time trying to grab the opponants wrist you are going to get hit with his other hand or someother strike! techniques like this are good only for one thing-to advance to the next belt! really-think about it.bs techniques like this are taught in so many styles/arts. no wonder bruce studied western boxing so much after he came to the states! alot of his wing chun just wouldnt work against someone with a decent jab/cross or just a good jab! of course there is even some stuff in western boxing that is bs that cant be used in the street like taking a punch to your gloves because in the street you have no gloves on! and also this dancing around your opponant like you saw ali or leonard do is a joke against someone who kicks you in the leg or who steps on your foot -moves quickly in ON YOU AND jams you and PUMMELS YOU! TRYING TO BE LIKE ALI OR SUGAR RAY! HA! better off that when someone blocks your punch -instead of you trying to use your other hand to grab his blocking hand wrist you just collapse that arm that was blocked at the wrist -you collapse it into an elbow into the his head and with your other hand you either do a pinning pak sau{palm slapping hand} or you use it to punch,etc.make more sense? try it for yourself ! dont believe me! try it for yourself! take it for checking! YOU AND ONLY YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE TEACHER-NOT ME OR ANY OTHER ONE! teachers will show you techniques but YOU are the only one who can see if they really work! teachers are not always teaching you techniques that work -----they are teaching you techniques so that you can progress to the next level/sash/belt and not necessarily teaching you techniques that work! i encourage ALL martial artists who are responding in their reviews,respond with positive and negative -by negative i mean constructive-comments so jkd gets "cleaned" up and hopefully one day jkd,wing chun etc.other martial arts are composed of PRACTICAL REAL LIFE WORKING TECHNIQUES/TOOLS THAT WORK AND NOT JUST USED TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT BELT/SASH OR LEVEL! RICHARD DITTEON is a professor of physics and applied optics at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at Terre Haute, Indiana. Dr. Ditteon received his PhD in geophysics and space physics from UCLA.

Beautiful & complex story

Despite its (very) recent release, Robert Spalding's novella, "Sunday's Unicorn", feels like a throwback to an earlier era. Part of it is the style - this thoughtful horror tale has the fairy-tale aesthetic of early Peter S. Beagle. The story is divided into two parts. The first is Billy's childhood. Initially, this begins as Bradburian memories of his youth in his grandparents' crumbling mansion and playing games with his older brother. It quickly turns ominous. After staying out all night to wait for a "unicorn", Billy's brother disappears and his family collapses into ruin.

This set-up (and the introduction of the deeply dark status quo) is the strongest part of "Sunday's Unicorn" - Mr. Spalding encapsulates both the magic of youth and its helplessness.

The second half is less about enchantment and more about explanation. Billy, now grown up, has a family of his own about which to worry. And when the sinister unicorn resurfaces, he's forced to confront the monster. A lot of exposition is involved - Billy's family history, the unicorn's history, what really happened in Billy's past, how his daughter is involved, etc. For a novella, this is packed with a backstory that spans generations. It is an impressive example of a complex idea that eventually knits together quite neatly.

However, "Sunday's Unicorn" is also, perhaps TOO ambitious for its short length. As the story descends into the detail of the past, it becomes less emotional and more narrative - there's a lot of ground to cover. "Sunday's Unicorn" has a great set-up and a brilliant central premise, given the compact length of the story, it is a squeeze to fit it all in!
