About the Author
Mourning Dove, the author of Cogewea, was an Okanogan of eastern Washington. She lived as a migrant farmworker and, after ten-hour days in the hop fields and apple orchards, faithfully returned to the battered typewriter in her tent. Lucullus Virgil McWhorter, a respected and sympathetic student of Indian lore and history, encouraged her in her ambition to be a writer; finally she made her book a record of the folklore of the Okanogan tribe, a plea for the welfare of the half-blood, and above all the testimony to her own singleminded dedication.

Cogegwea should be read by everyone.

Excellent story by an incredible woman. Their are some portions added to her manuscript, but the story is still an excellent one. How she managed to work long hours as a migrant farmer and express herself in thoughtful, well written themes at the same time is amazing.

Pretty good book for one I had to read for class

I had to read this novel for a Women of the West class and I ended up enjoying the read. I would recommend the read even if you are not made to read it for a class. Give it a chance, it takes a few chapters to get into it, but I'm glad I read it.

Get the real inside scoop before you travel to Havana- a must read book.

This is truly the way all travel guides should be created.

The author provides detailed information including local slang, customs, culture, dining, traveling and more. It is the insider view that is worth its weight in gold.

It is laid out in a really organized manner and I would like to see other countries/cities done by this author. I showed this book to my daughter as she is going to another country this summer and she said she wished the author would be writing about it as none of the travel books she bought compares to the quality of this one.

If you are going to Havana this is a must read book. Even if you aren’t going anytime soon, this is a great way to get the inside scoop on Havana culture.

All travel guides should be created like this one. I am glad I read this book because I am planning my next year’s vacations in Havana based on it. Cuba culture is amazing. This book includes everything you would expect from a travel guide like places to visit, restaurants and transport options. But you can read here quality information on local culture, history and citizen's expectations.

It focuses on showing you how to explore the parts of Cuba which most tourists miss completely – how to take public transportation and communal taxis, details all the major routes, how to take the ferry to the town of Regla and how to take the Hershey train for a day trip outside the City. The restaurant information are great as well.

You can feel the author’s love for his country and you can’t beat that in any other way. It a relaxing read in a clear and charming style, that resonates with any real tourist. It is based on real-facts and real helpful advice. Is you read this book, you don’t need to read anything else. Cuba is your for the taking!

Information that the other guidebooks miss

This guide has some of the most important information that the other guidebooks miss. It goes into detail about how to use a taxi particular (communal taxi) and really explains the casa particulars and how to save money when you rent one. Even more, I like that the author mentions off-beat destinations and attractions. We took a taxi to the Playas del Este and it was cheap and pretty easy and I loved taking the ferry to the town of Regla, on the other side of the Havana harbor. Next time I go I will explore some of the Havana suburbs, just like the guide mentions.

If you want a list of all the Havana tourist attractions, then this is not it. If you want to learn how to explore the authentic side of Havana and really understand the culture, then you need this guide. The author has tons of videos online too and on his website. Those helped me a lot as well.

Suits its audience well

This is a nice little book going over anatomy, pathogenesis and some treatment of common ENT problems. The pictures are black and white and there not so many diagrams but the advice is solid and its very easy to read while in the office. If you supplement the book with Netter's Atlas of Anatomy, you can have a good grasp of things. Would have liked some disease example pictures but that probably would make the book longer.

Excellent for young readers

These series of books by Thornton Burgess were written about 100 years ago. They are delightful stories for young readers to expose them to the lives of animals. Very fanciful and not serious, they perk the interest of young readers that animals have social lives, have adventures and perils, and allow the young reader a feeling of intimacy with animals. My 9 year old daughter truly loves these books. We've found a big adventure together trying to collect most of the books. There are more than 20 of them, many long out of print. I believe this is better reading than the current popular books which are for teenage readers. Try reading these books to your 5 year old, a priceless time together for father and daughter. When she became 8 she began reading them for herself. No finer children's books for young readers.
