About the Author

Richard Webster was born and raised in New Zealand. He has been interested in the psychic world since he was nine years old. As a teenager, he became involved in hypnotism and later became a professional stage hypnotist. After school, he worked in the publishing business and purchased a bookstore. The concept of reincarnation played a significant role in his decision to become a past-life specialist. Richard has also taught psychic development classes, which are based on many of his books.

Richard's first book was published in 1972, fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming an author. Richard is now the author of over a hundred books, and is still writing today. His best-selling books include Spirit Guides & Angel Guardians and Creative Visualization for Beginners. 

Richard has appeared on several radio and TV programs in the United States and abroad including guest spots on Hard Copy, WMAQ-TV (Chicago), KTLA-TV (Los Angeles), KSTW-TV (Seattle) and the Mike and Matty Show (ABC). He currently resides in New Zealand with his wife and three children. He regularly travels the world to give lectures, workshops and to continue his research.

About the Author
Daron Acemoglu is Charles P. Kindleberger Professor of Applied Economics at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a member of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research's Program on Institutions, Organizations, and Growth. Unsure of which way to go, she must trust in other supernaturals to help guide her—something she has never allowed before.
Forced to go against other Hunter vampires, she is backed into a corner where her only way out is to fight, or die trying.

This is Tori's story by W.J. May. It is book 2 in the Daughter of Darkness; Tori's story. As a courtesy, the author wishes to inform you this novella does end with a cliffhanger. The next book coming out in early Autumn (or sooner) will continue the story.

Does not disappoint!

This series is amazing. A new take on old character types. The plot keeps flowing, the storyline is consistent, and the characters continue to grow and develop as they should . Don't think about becoming complacent while reading this...it's not going to happen!
W.J. May is an amazing author, whose writing has yet to be a disappointment. Absolutely love the book, and can't wait for #3!

I am loving this series! It just keeps getting better and better. Victoria is a bada** huntress who comes to realize that she has been played by her father her whole life. She learns many things about her family and friends that change everything. She finally opens up her heart but is it too late? I can't wait to read Coveted, the next part of the series!

Well written, nicely illustrated, and utterly practical

For most boaters, power or sail, this is your best bet for a single, clear, comprehensive guide to piloting and navigation. The author, Sweet, is very knowledgeable and takes a straightforward approach to navigation in the electronic age. He makes a strong case for developing the skills to navigate without relying on electronic Chartplotters and Global Positioning Systems (which CAN and DO fail, like any other electronic device); however, he does not condescend to the reader on this issue, nor does he exclude those electronic devices from consideration. On the contrary, the nicest aspect of this book is the way it INTEGRATES electronic and traditional means of piloting, showing you how each can complement the other in useful ways. The result is a book that will teach you how to understand and use your electronics better, while developing traditional navigational skills that may save your life (or at least save you some inconvenience) the next time your electronics go down.

I've read a lot of books on navigation in the last 20 years. Sweet does a better-than-average job of explaining traditional piloting techniques in an accessible manner, with very nice illustrations that allow the reader to reflect on and absorb some of the abstract concepts involved. (Piloting is not hard, but it can feel overwhelming and confusing at first until you really "get" it.) Sweet is also one of the only authors I've come across who talks about electronic navigation methods as the normal reality for day-to-day navigation among most boaters (which it is!). Most other books relegate electronic devices to an isolated chapter, seem hopelessly out of date with regard to modern GPS innovations, and/or discuss electronic navigation as if it is an afterthought. Sweet talks as if he understands, realistically, that GPS will be the primary source of navigational information for the boaters he is addressing, and that is why his tone and approach come across so well. Along the way, he makes good recommendations about other resources to consult, such as Nigel Calder's definitive guide to reading a nautical chart, and to the free Coastal Explorer software that provides an excellent way to view NOAA raster charts for free on your computer. I am convinced of his credibility. This is a resource I would not hesitate to trust. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a clear and comprehensive guide to modern navigation.

I would NOT buy the Kindle edition, since the illustrations in this book are very important to developing a full understanding of certain concepts, and would not likely display well on the Kindle (smaller, without color, etc.).

Excellent Piloting Book

I've got a half dozen books on coastal navigation (piloting actually) and all are good, but Bob Sweet's book integrates GPS with traditional piloting methods in a way none of the rest do. Most books are either all about getting the most out of your GPS, or they concentrate on traditional charting methods then update the subject with separate chapters on GPS, RADAR, LORAN, etc.
This book approaches 21 first century piloting as an integrated plan for most conditions that shows the roles played by your charts, your electronics, and your common sea sense in a balanced, minute by minute situational awareness where no single tool predominates.
In short, Sweet's book answers the question I always had after reading other books: "OK, so how to I put all this together on the bay with only two hands, two eyes and one brain? This book shows how to do it without overloading yourself.

A well planned book, manufactured nicely with good paper and color.

Practical and Thorough

A great book for how most people navigate today. I completed the ASA navigation course, but its complete lack of GPS use and focus on complex math made for a steep learning curve, and I was not comfortable relying on it in practical applications without much more time on the water. This book uses a nice combination of paper charts and electronics, that actually works on the water. Being six years old, much of the specific tech has changed, but I was still able to use it with a new Garmin handheld chart-plotter to navigate my first three day charter in the Tampa Bay area. I wish I would have read it before purchasing a GPS as I would have purchased a more simple unit and invested more in other navigation areas.

Views on News Blog, David Lammers The environmental impact of electronics manufacturing has become a prime concern of governments and people everywhere. A new book written and organized by Professor Sammy Shina, Green Electronics, Design and Manufacturing (McGraw Hill; 2008), provides a highly practical examination of how electronics companies can create products which meet environmental standards. Green Electronics is aimed at managers and engineers; readers who seek a variety of perspectives on how to successfully negotiate the path to a "green" product. It is aimed at teams which seek to develop environmentally benign materials and manufacturing processes. Shina spent two decades in industry after graduating from M.I.T., and has an equally long period teaching under his belt. He now teaches mechanical engineering at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Equally to the point, he is the founder of the New England Lead-Free Consortium, founded in 1999 and counting ~30 electronics manufacturers as members. He is, in short, an authority on the subject who doesn't talk down to his readers one bit. How To Think The first chapters of Green Electronics explain the scientific and mathematical underpinning to a successful conversion to "green" materials, products and processes, including quality and reliability concerns. There is guidance on statistical tests that can be applied to green materials and process selection. To weed out the casual reader, perhaps, the book starts out with a mini-course on statistics and sampling, with two key bits of advice: a sample size of 30 "is usually sufficient," Shina advises, and testing should be spread out over different days and times. Shina recommends that a product design team seeking to meet environmental standards should include a member who is a statistician, or who has received design of experiment (DoE) training. He provides a short course on DoE techniques, including problem definition: how to outline the goals of a project and define the quality characteristics of the process or design to be optimized. Shina and his co-authors don't shy away from environmental degradation issues, including the issue that made Massachusetts (in)famous: the chemical "disposal and leaching, with affect on city water supplies and affect on human health." With a view to the future, Green Electronics outlines how to avoid those problems, including what it takes to get away from lead-based solders. The reader learns quite a bit about the guts of RoHS materials, their higher processing temperatures, and the nitty gritty of using green materials. In a chapter on converting to lead-free assembly, contributors Robert Farrell and Scott Mazur of Benchmark Electronics (Hudson, N. H.) describe the conversion to RoHS compliance (lead free) as "one of the greatest changes to the electronics assembly in over 20 years, which exceeds the impact of the more recent conversions of through-hole to surface mount technology (SMT), and high-pin-count lead frame components to ball grid array packages." The lead-free solders require processing temperatures 30-40 C higher than tin/lead based solders, making hot air surface leveling (HASL) more likely to cause thermal damage to the board. I've been reading Green Electronics bit-by-bit, moving from the first chapters written by Prof. Shina to the seven chapters contributed by managers from a variety of well-known electronics companies, most of them based in the northeast area of the United States. I had the opportunity to read the Green Electronics Design and Manufacturing book by Prof Sammy Shina and was impressed by the methods and techniques detailing the practical applications of the green design and manufacturing concepts for both existing & new electronics products as well as the mathematical analysis needed for green conversion in statistics and long term reliability. The book details the tried & true methods to attain immediate results. I find most of the examples and recommendations very easy to understand and follow.

Green manufacturing is not a fad but a necessity these days and there is no better place to start than your own company and your products. Prof Shina shows a very good grasp of the subject & conveys the urgency of its implementation.

It is a right book at the right time for the Electronics Manufacturing Industry and I highly recommend it

A Star Wars MASH Unit

"Battle Surgeons" is the first book in the Medstar duology. The action takes place two years after "Attack of the Clones." As can be guessed from the title of both the book and the duology, "Battle Surgeons" gives readers the first true look at a side of the Galaxy that has never been seen before. These battle surgeons are the ones who clean up the messes of all the wars and battles and try to save lives in the midst of a war. Think of it as the Star Wars version of M.A.S.H. and you will have a sense of exactly what "Battle Surgeons" is.

This story takes place on, and around, the planet Drongar. There is some backstory presented that there is a rare plant which can be used as something of a miracle drug for a variety of species throughout the galaxy and the Clone Wars have come to Drongar for the control of this plant/drug. This is the background, but it isn't terribly important because the story is really about the M.A.S.H. unit. The heart of "Battle Surgeons" lies in the interaction between the various surgeons: Jos Vondar, Zan Yant, Tolk le Trene, and the Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee sent to investigate the situation on Drongar. There is, of course, the love interest between Jos and Tolk, which is complicated by their cultural restrictions. But, added to the mix is also the protocol droid I-Five. Readers may remember I-Five from "Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter", which was also written by Michael Reaves. I-Five is a droid which has more human emotional characteristics than most droids, more so than some humans would think possible for a droid. He is also a much more interesting character (on the page) than C-3PO (not in this book). For example, we see I-Five gambling with the other surgeons, holding his own in both the game as well as in the give and take of conversation.

There is a main plot thread about smuggling the rare plant from Drongar, but what makes this story shine is the interactions within the M.A.S.H. unit (if I were more familiar with the show I would be able to extend the analogy to the characters). This is a much funnier book than many of the other Star Wars novels, and while they all use humor, the humor in "Battle Surgeons" felt appropriate and fitting for who the characters are and the situation they are dealing with. Then again, I was prepped for this novel by periodically watching M.A.S.H. reruns over the years. "Battle Surgeons" is an entertaining look into an overlooked part of the Star Wars universe, and one which also sets up the continuing story in "Medstar II: Healer". This volume was good enough that I am looking to read the second volume over many of the other Star Wars novels that have been published.

How to Build Speaker Enclosures 8th edition 1972 144 pages [Paperback] by Alexis Badmaieff
This informative book on speaker building is primarily written to address the enclosures, but has valid information in regard to some Good designs that includes basic speaker information for added clairity for the reader. As given in the description it is a thorough, comprehensive handling of much of the theoretical information of constructing high-quality, top-performance speaker enclosures. This book does cover the advantages and disadvantages of several enclosure types and includes discussions on speaker drivers and crossover networks. After going through the chapters, (8), Speaker Enclosure discussions came first and then the drivers and how they are utilized in the enclosures, driver numbers and the matching of the enclosures. There is a good explanation concerning efficiencies of drivers, balance importance, multiple arrays of speakers and phasing of woofer, midrange and tweeters. Enclosure baffles is discussed in detail in Chapter three comparing three systems for explation of differnt uses. Bass Reflex or Phase Inversin Enclosures, Horn enclosures and the combination of enclosures follow in the next Three Chapters. There follows a thorough discussion of crossovers networks, picking the crossover frequencies, phase shifts, crossover rates, electronic crossovers, network configurations, equalizers and shelving. The final chapter discusses testing and materials of design, regidity, and speaker placement and phasing of stereo speakers is discussed in Summary. This is an older book on the design of Stereo systems, but the theory is still sound and can give a lot of good information to the reader to design and understand building of Speakers. I recommend this book. An easy read compared to those books from some of the newer authorities on the subject.

Do you know an input from an output?

This is a book by professionals for those with an aptitude for science, electronics and mathematics, or for those with some experience in loudspeaker design and construction. From the get-go, the reader is immersed in such audio terms as chokes, wavelength, cone excursion, frequency response, acoustical power, distortion, crossovers, phasing, decibel and equalization. Some explanations are technical involving mathematics. The newcomer will be lost. The beginner would require far more support to actually design, construct and test a loudspeaker system. Block diagrams for setting up testing equipment, and how to use them is beyond the person who doesn't know an input from an output.

Knowledgeable readers, however, will feel at home in a review of the 5 major types of box loudspeakers (1) finite baffle (2) infinite baffle (3) bass reflex (4) horn projectors and (5) combinations of those. There are many construction drawings with measurements of various types of loudspeaker designs and a chapter on woodworking. There are schematics, circuit diagrams and block diagrams. The book is for those who want to know the scientific principles behind loudspeaker enclosures. This will benefit the experienced builder. The authors were highly regarded audio engineers in the 1960's.
